The first black woman to publish mainstream science fiction, Octavia Butler helped to initiate the movement known as Afrofuturism. Her work also gave energy to the concepts of emergent strategy, as she explored power and leadership outside the colonial models of western civilization. As we continue to resist the paradigm of domination, what can we learn from her visions of the future?
