Service: “Words That Come Before All Else” with Rev. Kendyl Gibbons

The Thanksgiving Address is a tradition from the Native American Haudenosaunee Confederation -- a litany of gratitude, it opens all meetings and gatherings, much like a UU Chalice Lighting.  What does it look like, and what might it mean, when a culture begins all human connection with an expression of appreciation for the gifts of the natural world, life itself, and community?  At this service we will welcome new members, and the choir will sing.

Service: “Creation of a Free Space” with Rev. Jill Jarvis

Theologian Henri Nouwen wrote that hospitality means primarily “the creation of a free space where the stranger can enter...to offer them space where change can take place.” But the human tendency is to view strangers as potentially threatening or challenging on physical, emotional, and spiritual levels. To truly welcome the stranger is a radical, intentional act that may require more than a change in perspective.

We honor the season of remembrance and All Souls Day, with an opportunity to recall our own lost loved ones, and a moving performance of Robert Schumann’s inspiring Requiem. The offering will support our Music & Religious Education programs.
