Guatemalan Concerns

 March Special Offering

In March, All Souls will take a special offering for our Guatemalan community.  With this offering, we hope to help build a one-room home for Angelica, a young girl whom we have sent to high school for the last two years.  Her mom makes $17 a week (when she gets work) and they live in a small room with five people in the back of he uncle’s home.  Her mom has bought a small piece of property, but recently lost her job, so has no money to build.

We hope to make our third visit to the Highlands of Guatemala this May.

The committee for Guatemalan Concerns works to keep the congregation aware of the work both the church and individual congregants are doing in Guatemala.
Recently we have built a home and an outhouse for a single mother. Helped  her set up her apron-making business with a small micro-loan and a work table and chair. Gave her a mattress to sleep on and a water filter so her children had clean water. We gave tables, chairs, whiteboards, bookshelves and cubbies to Xecotoj school and hope to get a patio made and electricity wired up.

On our last trip we tutored preschool children, did field work, made hundreds of Fathers Day baskets, helped with stray animals, and worked on furniture.

We practice shoestring philanthropy———–please join us.
We have several projects that members and friends can get involved in:
You could help us collect school supplies (pens/pencils/notebooks/English-Spanish dictionaries for our school in Xecotoj).
You could buy aprons from a young mother whom we helped set up in business with a micro-loan.
You could join Glendi’s Club and give $5.00 a month to help some deserving children have enough food.

Beautiful Glendi

You could help with a Sunday Plus lunch so we can fund the school fees for  a high school girl.
All Souls members are planning a service trip the summer of 2012.
