Joining a Meeting via Zoom

STEP 1: Get Meeting Information

Before you begin, make sure you have the Zoom meeting information. It may be one or more of the following:

1) A Zoom link, such as https://zoom.us/j/5611186630 (This is the public Zoom room we use at All Souls.) It may include extra information after the 9 to 11 digit number; that is fine
2) A Zoom meeting ID, such as 123 456 789 (this is the 9 to 11 digit number included in a Zoom link)
3) A phone number to dial in via telephone (this is different than the meeting ID)    +1 312 626 6799
4) A meeting password, if one is required (optional)

Most of this information is automatically included in an invite to a Zoom meeting. You should have it readily available before joining the meeting. If you are missing a piece, please contact the meeting organizer.

STEP 2: Choose How to Join

There are a few different ways you can join a Zoom meeting:

1) Listen in via telephone. You’ll be able to hear the meeting, and may also be able to speak. However, you won’t be able to see the speakers or any other shared visual resources. If you are unfamiliar with technology or want a simple approach, this is the best option. You’ll want to use your cell phone, since most of the phone numbers used by Zoom are not toll-free.

2) Join online on a computer, tablet, or smartphone. You’ll be able to see and hear the speakers and any shared visual resources. You may also be able to use your own webcam and microphone to join in and speak. If you are comfortable with technology and have the right equipment, this is the best option. We recommend using a headset microphone if one is available.

3) Join online on a computer, tablet, or smartphone to see, but use your phone to hear and speak. This is the best option if you have access to a device and want to see the speakers and shared visual resources, but don’t have the proper equipment to listen or speak easily. You can use your phone and dial in to listen as in option 1, but still watch via your computer, tablet, or smartphone as in option 2.

See the information below for each option.
