  • Dates:  Sept. 3 – Nov. 19

  • Day: Fridays

  • Time:  1 PM – 3 PM

  • Where:  Conovor or Zoom (Dependant on the opening of the church)

  • Sign up here:  Art in Context

In the fall we will be taking a much closer look at the art of the Nineteenth Century.  We’ll be deep diving into the works and minds of certain artists and groups who helped define Modern Art, a movement that reached its zenith in the Twentieth Century (which we will examine in the spring).  While we did a quick overview of the Nineteenth Century last year, this fall we will take a much more focused look at specific artists who furthered the dialogue and program of modernity. The class will be structured around a series of questions, such as:

  • Are some people and subjects morally unfit for art?

  • Why did industrialism have such an impact on art?

  • Why does the term “reality” keep changing meanings?

  • Is there really such a thing as unconditioned perception?

  • When and why did art stop validating the status quo?

These are only of few of the questions we will address this fall.  At this point I’m hoping that we can meet in person at the church (even if we must stay masked), Fridays from 1:00-3:00 Sept 3—Nov 19.  If you are interested in the class, please go to and sign up. Space may be limited until Conover is available, so sign up early.  If you have questions or would like more information, please email me at To sign up, go here: Art in Context. Hope to see you in September!
