Corona Pandemic Response Information
May 12, 2020 UPDATE- In accordance with advice received from the UUA on May 12, 2020, and with opinions of local and national public health experts, the board of trustees of All Souls UU Church in Kansas City has determined that there will be no in person large group congregational gatherings scheduled for the coming program year, until the end of May, 2021. This includes assemblies for worship, community forum, fund raising or social events, and formal congregational meetings. Should the situation regarding the novel corona virus change significantly during this time, we may revisit this decision, but staff and leaders will plan for a year of online activities.
At this time, all building use will follow the policy set forth by the Facilities
committee. Staff will continue to work primarily from home. As expert advice about best practices for safety continues to evolve, policy about small group activities held at the church facility or sponsored by the congregation may change. The well-being of All Souls members and staff, as well as public safety, will continue to be the board’s primary consideration.
March 21, 2020 UPDATE – Read more here – Stay at Home Order Beginning, Tuesday, March 23, 2020. Only essential businesses will be open: Grocery stores, pharmacies, banks and gas stations.
“As community spread of COVID-19 continues throughout our region, we are taking aggressive action to flatten the curve and protect our most vulnerable brothers and sisters,” said Mayor Lucas. “We are asking our entire community to unite to prevent the spread of this virus and appreciate everyone’s cooperation during this time. I understand the financial and emotional toll this virus has taken on Kansas City families and businesses, and I am working my hardest to create every opportunity possible to ease some of this financial burden. We have suspended all water and electricity shut-offs and have issued a moratorium on evictions, but I know our work for those struggling most continues.”
In response to local government instruction and best practices to minimize the spread of the current Corona virus pandemic, the All Souls Board of Trustees takes the following actions:
Usual in person Sunday morning programming, including community forum, worship services, and religious education, is cancelled until further notice. Some programs may continue to be available in on line format.
Major events such as the Auction and the Annual Meeting will either take place on line, or be postponed and rescheduled.
Groups and activities are encouraged to meet on line rather than in person; the All Souls Zoom account is available for such meetings, and help with using it can be provided.
For church members, small gatherings of five or fewer members may be approved by request.
Staff is encouraged to work from home as much as possible.
The building will be closed unless special arrangements are made with staff for access.
Ongoing rental groups will make their own decisions about their activities, in accordance with local & national government instructions.
